Make every application count.

Check your CV against each job, tailor it for the role, and keep every application in one place — free, on your own computer, with nothing to sign up for.

Windows and Mac builds available now. Free, open source, no account, and no server of ours behind it. The Windows installer is not in the Microsoft Store yet, so Windows may show a SmartScreen warning the first time you run it — choose “More info”, then “Run anyway”. Step-by-step help with the warning. The Mac app is signed and notarised with Apple, and runs on Intel and Apple Silicon. Linux is not offered for now.

Runs on your computer

Private by design.

There is no CViper server. The app runs on your PC and keeps your data on your disk. If you add an AI, the app talks to the one you choose directly, with your own key.

Free from the first click

The application tracker, the basic CV match and job search all work with no key and nothing set up. Want a deeper read? Add a key from the AI provider you choose — they bill your own account at their own rates — or run a model on your own PC for free.

No account

Nothing to register, no password to forget, no emails from us. Install it and start.

Nothing comes to us

We have no server and no copy of your data. The basic match never sends your CV anywhere. If you choose an AI, your CV goes only to that provider — with your own key, kept in Windows' own credential store — or to a model running on your own PC.

How it works

Three steps to your first CV check.

Install CViper Light

Download the Windows installer from GitHub Releases — a Microsoft Store listing is on its way. It opens straight into a short welcome.

Add an AI key, if you want one

Optional: the tracker, job search and the basic match work without one. For a fuller read, paste a key from the provider you choose, or point the app at a model running on your PC. The AI reading uses that provider's service.

Drop in your CV and a job

Paste the job advert or its link. You get a match score, the skills you match, the ones you are missing, and what to change first.

What it does

Built by someone who has read a lot of CVs.

CViper Light comes from years of hiring in London finance. It does the four things that actually move an application forward, and nothing else.

Match score

See how well your CV fits the role before you apply, which requirements you are missing, and what to change first.

Tailored CV and cover letter

Rewrite your CV for one job and draft the cover letter, from your own facts only. If a draft adds anything you never gave it, it is flagged before you read a word. Uses an AI you choose, or a free one on your own PC.

Application tracker

A board of everything you have applied for, with a mark down the side of each card showing how long it has sat still.

UK job search

Open your search on nine UK job boards in one click, and browse two free job feeds inside the app — no account needed. Free Adzuna and Reed keys add full search inside the app, if you want it.

Questions

Before you download.

Is it really free?

Yes. The app is free and there is no paid tier. Tracking your applications, the basic CV match and job search all work with no key and nothing set up. If you want an AI to read your CV properly, add your own key and the provider bills your own account directly, at their published rates — or run a model on your own PC for nothing. CViper takes no cut.

Where do I get an AI key?

From the provider you choose, under their API keys page. The app has a key card for six: OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Gemini, Mistral, xAI Grok and OpenRouter — each card links to that provider's key page. You can also point it at an AI service of your own. Each provider bills your own account at their published rates, and CViper takes no cut. The app tests the key before it saves it, keeps it in your computer's credential store, and never shows it back. Prefer no key at all? Install Ollama and the app uses a model on your own PC for free.

Is my CV safe?

It stays on your computer until you ask for an AI reading of it. Then the text goes from your PC straight to the provider whose key you added, under that provider's API terms — not through us. We never see it. Pick a model running on your own PC instead and it does not leave at all.

How do I download it?

On Windows, press the Download button at the top of this page, or download the installer here — one file, CViper-Light-Windows-x64.exe, always the newest version. It is not in the Microsoft Store yet, so your browser and Windows may warn you the first time; here is how to get past the warning, and how to check the file. On a Mac, press Download for Mac, or download the disk image here, open it and drag CViper Light into Applications; it is signed and notarised with Apple, so there is no warning to get past. Every build is made in public by the repo's own release workflow, so you can see exactly what produced the file you are installing, and the releases page lists every file with its SHA-256 checksum. Linux is not offered for now.

Does it make things up?

It is designed not to. The basic match only compares the words on your CV with the words in the advert. When you ask an AI to tailor your CV or write a cover letter, it is told to use only facts from your CV — and the app then checks the draft against your original. A new employer, date, certificate or figure is flagged above the draft before you read it. Always read the result before you send it.

Who built this?

CViper Light is independent software, made in the UK as a side project by someone who has spent years on the hiring side. It is maintained in spare time; questions and bugs go through GitHub Issues.

Privacy, in one paragraph. CViper Light runs on your computer. We have no server, no accounts, and no copy of your data. Your CV, a pasted advert and your own AI key only ever go to the provider you choose, or to a model running on your own PC. Your job-board keys go only to Adzuna or Reed, and only when you search.
